Because pajamas are so soft, we thought it would be lovely to hear the different kinds of lullabies musicians sing. Here’s what five of our wonderfully thoughtful music friends shared with us on Ear Snacks: Pajamas...
Lucy Kalantari of grammy-winning Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats snag Los Pollitos, a traditional Spanish lullaby her mother sang to her, and an original lullaby she wrote for her son (the little fellow who plays a little cello) Darius. And sge was kind enough to lend her lovely voice to our upcoming album, Go for the Moon!
Cactus a.k.a. Grammy winning kid-hop artist Secret Agent 23 Skidoo used to sing his tune Seven Seas as a lullaby to his little daughter MC Fireworks (who is not little any more). He’s written a lot of songs about dreams, including the Amazon Original record Wake Up the Dream available now.
Our rockstar pal Tatiana DeMaria doesn’t remember any lullabies from her childhood, but she does sometimes sing her mom to sleep with a reinvention of the traditional French lullaby Una Chanson Douce.
You can hear our Grammy-winning composer pal Christopher Tin’s music in video games and concert halls around the world, but he joins us to share his nightime ritual of improvising lullabies for his daughter, Penny.
Kaitlin of the Grammy-nominated Alphabet Rockers sings all kinds of songs to her child including Lights by Journey and Dear Theodosia from the musical Hamilton, which inspired the song “Some Day” on their new album “The Love”.
(And Andrew & Polly share a couple of their favorites, too.)
